The Probus movement originally started in 1965, when a member of Welwyn Garden City Rotary Club used to meet retired friends, with professional and business backgrounds, for coffee. This evolved into a successful luncheon club and the Rotary Movement then promoted the idea. Today there are around 1700 Probus Clubs in the UK and the movement is increasingly popular elsewhere.Probus is not a fund-raising organisation, there is no central organising body, each club sets its own rules and elects its own officers to manage club activities.
Retford Mens Probus Club was formed in 1971. Membership of the Club is currently around 40 members.
Our members are drawn from our local area, Retford and the surrounding villages. Those members having enjoyed successful careers in the armed forces, the public sector and local businesses.
We have a wide range of interests, think of a hobby and, chances are, some of our members share your interest. We meet every two weeks in our season of meetings from September until May at Hallcroft Leisure Centre Retford or at visit locations when we have an away day. If you have time on your hands and would like to join the club you will be made most welcome. Why not get in touch with us through the contact form on this website.
