Probus Press Release: Number 4 – 14th May 2016
Retford Men’s Probus Club has been running since 1971. Our meetings take place at the Westhill Community Centre, Ordsall at 10.00am every other Friday. If you want to get involved pleased view our website;
We have a new President and Committee. Following our AGM on the 13th May, George Teasdale was elected as the President, and Dennis Beevers elected as Secretary. Your Treasurer remains Guy Middleton and your Press Officer remains Roy Evans (who was also proposed and adopted as the President elect for 2017/18).
Our thanks should go to Rob and Bob for the sterling work they have done over the last twelve months. On Friday May 27th our immediate past President, Bob Blatchford will be telling us about a trip he made to Canada to see how justice is administered there. Bob spent over 26 years as a magistrate in our area, and has strong views on how justice should be administered, and the judiciary served.
On 10th June, we are visiting the National Mining Museum at Caphouse Colliery. Members please note that our bus will leave Kettlewell’s yard at no later than 09.30. We should wear sensible clothing (so no skirts guys!!) and decent shoes. If you are planning to go underground, remember there will be a £3.00 charge for your ‘tally’ marker. This is very important as it records your presence underground. On return to the surface, you return your marker, but it’s considered ‘bad form’ to ask for your £3.00 back. (But that’s absolutely up to you – no pressure then).
We are being given a talk and mining presentation around 14.30, and we will be leaving Caphouse no later than 15.30. We should get back to Retford around 17.00.
Help! Help! Help! (Don’t panic Mr Mainwaring)
We have only sold 16 tickets for our Summer Social with Retford Ladies Probus Club. Surely we can better than that. Don’t forget the date. Our joint Summer Social is on 2nd July, when we will be linking up with the Retford ladies. The event starts at 16.00 and will go on until around 19.00
Don’t let the side down, dig into your pockets and give Guy the £20.00 needed for two tickets, (£40 would be better, bring some friends).
Remember all are welcome to our meetings and visitors are more than welcome.
