January was an interesting month with our first speaker who spent a number of years working in ‘show business’. Colin Bower spent worked in both radio and television and told many amusing anecdotes about ‘The Business’. Vince Eager was due to give us a talk about his time in Rock and Roll, but had to cancel, two days before he was due to talk. Dennis gave Roy Evans a ring on the Wednesday evening and asked him to put a talk together for the Friday morning. Roy had a talk prepared on the History of London Transport, and how the Tube and Buses have really shaped London over the last 150 years. It seemed to go down well.
February looks interesting as well, with talks on ‘The Pilgrim Fathers’, given by Chris Daniels, and ‘Velocipedes’, by Rosemary Beney.
On 22nd March we are going to the Grimsby Fish Museum. We are leaving Kettlewell’s yard at 09.00, aiming to arrive at 10.30. We will then be split into two groups. The first will visit the Trawler, and be shown over her, and the second group will be shown around the museum. We then change over after an hour or so, and around 13.00, we will drive to Cleethorpes for our Fish and Chip sit down meal. Guy now needs to collect the £15 per person fee, as we have to pay both Kettlewells and the Museum, prior to the visit.
Our President Geoff Gadie and Secretary Dennis Beevers have both put in an enormous amount of work to arrange and organise this trip, so we as members should give them both the support their efforts deserve, and make the trip as enjoyable to all as we can.
Retford Men’s Probus Club meet every other Friday morning at Westhill Community Centre, Ordsall at 10.00. If you are interested in joining us, please contact our secretary Dennis Beevers through the Contact Form on this website and he will give you more details
