Retford Mens Probus Club

Information About Retford Mens Probus Club

March 24, 2019 By admin

Press Release: March 24th, No. 32

March is always an interesting month. It came in like a Lion with Storm Fryer, so with luck by the time you are reading this it has finished like a Lamb. For those of you with Solar Panels installed, you will have noticed that in the Retford area, year on year, we had 25% more sunshine this year than last year. If you remember on St David’s day last year we had deep snow, with the first daffodils showing around 20th March. This year many of us had daffodils in full flower on the 1st March.

Pam Farquar gave us an interesting talk on the 8th March, about the use of ‘Dogs of the British Army’ and, of course, we had our trip to Grimsby on the 22nd. This trip was to the Grimsby Fish Museum, and a grand time was had by the 40 or so people who went.

Geoff Gadie and Secretary Dennis Beevers had both put in an enormous amount of work in to arrange and organise this trip, so we as members should give them both a real vote of thanks.

Vince Eager is going to make another come back, this time on May 10th. I have an old broadcasting pal, who is the doyenne of sixties pop, and he’s told me that although Vince  never had a top ten hit of his own, he did have a successful career as a support act for those who did. He was part of Larry Parnes stable, which included Tommy Steel, Marty Wilde, Billy Fury and Joe Brown.

Retford Men’s Probus Club meet every other Friday morning at Westhill Community Centre, Ordsall at 10.00. If you are interested in joining us, please e-mail our secretary Dennis Beevers  using the contact form on the website and he will give you more details
