Retford Men’s Probus Club has been running since 1971. Our meetings take place at the Westhill Community Centre, Ordsall at 10.00am every other Friday. If you want to get involved please contact us through this website.
Over the next two years we are running a campaign to increase our membership. If you have retired, or are about, to please have a good trawl through our web site, to see if there is anything of interest. We look forward to seeing as many of you as possible at Westhill Community Centre.
Christmas is approaching at the speed of light. We at Retford Men’s Probus wish you all the compliments of the season.
Well October started with some ‘light work’. Actually Bob Massey told us of his time as the ‘Lighting Director’ of several West End and Regional Theatres. The second meeting showed the ‘metal’ of your current President and his successor. Our speaker from The Dog’s Trust’ got hopelessly lost, and we had to turn to plan ‘B’ to have any kind of meeting.
George Teasdale gave an impromptu talk on his lifetime career working for the coal board. It was both funny and informative. Roy Evans then gave a half hour talk on Number 2 Army Commando’s role at the Raid of Saint Nazaire. Considering neither was expecting to give a talk, both seemed to go down very well.
Our November presentations are covering the Restoration of a French Country House, and Inspector Hopkinson’s Discovery. Sandwiched in between will be a talk given by Trevor Dempsey on ‘Show Business.
Once again, we wish you all a Happy Christmas and a good New Year.
