Retford Men’s Probus Club has been running since 1971. Our meetings take place at the Westhill Community Centre, Ordsall at 10.00am every other Friday. If you want to get involved pleased view our website;
Well ‘mid summer’s day’ has been and gone. England’s football team performed to their usual standard, in the Euro’s. But the Rugby team excelled themselves beating Australia 3-0 in their test series ‘down under’. Both the men’s and women’s England cricket teams are having a great summer beating out of sight the Sri Lankan men and Pakistani women.
And Retford Men’s Probus Club has had a great year as well. We have had some terrific speakers, and in my opinion Bob Blatchford was outstanding but so were all the other guys who gave of their time. Mike Newbold telling us about his acting roles in ‘Last of the Summer Wine’, Samantha Glasswell describing her excitement at finding Anglo Saxon remains at burial sites, Geoff Gadie telling us about Truck Racing, and Chris Ashby telling of his life in the RAF, as aircrew on the Nimrod.
We are on our summer break now, but we start our meetings, once again, on September 9th, when David Dawson (who talked to us last November on Dinky Toys) will again be giving a presentation on ‘Collectables’. Then on September 23rd, Steve Short will be discussing ‘Morecambe and Wise’.
As we get into October, there will be two more presentations. On October 7th, Bob Massey will be discussing ‘Theatre Lighting’ and on October 21st, Sarah Gamble will be talking about ‘The Dog’s Trust’.
Dennis Beevers has worked really hard to get a good range of interesting speakers, and we all need to support our group, by attending as many meetings as we can.
Don’t forget George Teasdale’s plea for more members. Let’s all try to introduce a friend to come to one of our meetings, after all that’s how most of us joined.
Have a great summer, and the committee look forward to seeing as many of you as possible on September 9th.
