Retford Men’s Probus Club has been running since 1971. Our meetings take place at the Westhill Community Centre, Ordsall at 10.00am every other Friday.
Well what a good AGM we had back on 19th May, and a great lunch following on. It was fascinating listening to all the members contributions, making the meeting a great success.
The new President Roy Evans was extremely sorry he could not attend his ‘special day’, but he had one or two health issues to sort out before driving 1,500 miles down to Brittany and the Loire Valley on the following Sunday, two days later. He had to show the ‘medics’ he was fit enough to be able to go.
The new committee have had their first meeting of the year, and all congratulated the previous President George Teasdale for arranging his trip to RAF Scampton.
This photograph shows our member Phil Drummond about to accept the Queen’s ‘shilling’ to become a Red Arrow pilot.
We confirmed at committee, that from this coming year, our annual subs will be raised to £22.00. As with all things costs rise, and we do need a small contingency fund for any new equipment, and rate rises from A! Housing.
We also discussed the ‘Speaker Programme’ for next year, and our secretary Dennis Beevers has everything in hand, with our first meeting for the next season being on 8th September. Booklets are being printed and the committee will have a supply available at the first meeting.
The Christmas Lunch has now been booked at the Old Bell, and either Dennis or Mick Blackman will update us in September.
Various other things were discussed, and either Dennis or the President will update us at the next meeting.
The President may have changed, but the ethos of our Retford Men’s Probus club hasn’t. Remember bring a friend and introduce him to Probus. It’s only by building our membership that will help this club survive.
We now have a new ‘scribe’ in post, and this is his first effort, so let the committee now if you approve the writing style.
We meet every other Friday morning at Westhill Community Centre, in Ordsall at 10.00. There is a web site, please have a look and see our programme of speakers. If you are interested in joining us, please e-mail our secretary Dennis Beevers at, firstname.lastname@example.org and he will give you more details.
